Chromesthesia

— R&D

An interactive musical instrument that translates RGB values into sound. The user controls the installation by rotating the coloured globe over a colour sensor. We used processing and the minims library to then synthesize the sound.

The definition of Chromesthesia is: A type of synesthesia in which heard sounds automatically and involuntarily evoke an experience of colour.

Colour has frequencies, evokes emotion and is intangible, just like sound. We thought about new ways of people could experience colour through sound. Chromesthesia is in between a musical instrument and a music player. It has a visual score leaving the user in control to take the sound where they want.
